I recently started listening to Pandora Internet radio.

I like it because you can choose what type of music that you want to listen to.

If I don't like the song I can skip it.

I heard a song today by Jazmine Sullivan called Bust the Windows.

I couldn't believe she was talking about busting the windows out some one's car.  There are many other songs out there with crazy lyrics.  But as we listen to media realize that it goes into your spirit what you hear.

I use to tell myself the lie that this was only entertainment.  However, you become what you listen to whether positive or negative.

So I decided to clean up my mp3 player, CD collection, and stations that I listen to.  I got rid of the songs that had profane language, depressing lyrics, and wild untruths. 

I had Cd's from college on that included Too Short, NWA, Snoop, Jay-Z and others that disrespected woman and human life.  Songs from Notorious Big Me and my B**** and others that we say he is not talking about me.  But in the back of your mind you want your man to feel like that about you.  Are you a B****??? No! 

 It was not just the Hip-Hop music but also R&B and Gospel music.  I can't praise God feeling down and I don't want to hear depressing music with reference to God or things that are not biblically sound.  I like positive music that uplifts my soul with the truth. 

I understand why Mary J. Blige said she can't continue to make music like My Life Cd.  If you keep singing or listening to the music that is dark and depressing you take yourself back to that place and the life you were living to be in that hole.  So Mary keep making positive music that shows your growth in this life.

I found a place that I could sell all my old Cd's, DVDs and VHS.  It wasn't about the money it was about cleaning up what I put in my mind each day.  I felt good getting rid of those negative things in my life. 

Not only did I get rid of the music but I will no longer engage in conversations with people who are negative and never have any thing positive or purposeful to talk about.

I don't know about any one else as I grow on this journey called life I want to take off bad habits and put on new ones.  That means I have to be willing to leave things and people behind.  It does not mean that I don't care about them it means that I care about me enough to want a positive listening environment.

You are what you listen too.  Take that in consideration the next time you turn on media.
