Budgeting, Just For Fun, News, Renee Says

I decided to add up my piggy bank for a year end review.

I found that my piggy bank was short sum funds.

I had cheated my piggy bank.

I looked at my calendar to check my progress.   There were days that I put on the calendar that I was supposed to come back and put money in the bank when I didn't have the cash on me or waiting for pay day to occur.  I didn't make all my deposits to the bank.  There were days I simply forgot about the piggy bank just going through life.

I felt so bad that I didn't live up to my advice.  All I can do is keep saving in my piggy bank.  I picked up my feelings and dusted myself.  I realized I can't  let my short comings stop me from achieving the overall big picture which is to save money creatively.   The point is it had been a long time since I made a real effort to save money outside my savings account.   I did save some money.    All was not lost!

Then it dawned on me in my pity party that my audience that I was telling to start a piggy bank may be facing the same problems.  They may stop because they haven't been able to keep the piggy bank going like they thought they would.

I came up with a few questions and obstacles that may come up with keeping a piggy bank???

So how can I keep up with my piggy bank???  I decided to put a calendar by the piggy bank to mark it for piggy bank deposits.   At the end of the month I can talley up what is due in my piggy bank.  If it is not all there I can put the difference in the bank.

What do I do if I don't have the money every time I need to put money in my piggy bank???  Many people don't carry much cash anymore.  Get some extra cash so that you can pay the piggy bank each pay period.   It helps me to pay right on the spot when I have the cash in my wallet.

What if I have to stop the piggy bank for a while because of my financial situation??  When your finances turn around start your piggy bank back up at that point.  Don't beat yourself up if you have to use funds in the bank to pay bills or just to keep living.  That's what the piggy bank is for the times you need help or have a project in mind.

Remember the point of the piggy bank is to save.  Rainy days come.  Its good to have an umbrella (piggy bank) when they do.   Give yourself goals that you want to accomplish with your piggy bank.  It's fun to watch the funds add up.  When you fall short putting money in the piggy bank get over it quickly.  Start right where you are to continue saving.

I hope that you start your own piggy bank in 2011.

I will give updates on my progress once a quarter in 2011.
