I was reading an article about the IRS moving to audit more people in the 5 million and up income range.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/03/29/pf/taxes/irs_audits_millionaires/index.htm
In as effort to clean up its image the IRS is looking to show the little guy that people with money can get audited to.
The amount of audits for all people with a million and over went up last year.
They have also created a task force to monitor people in the million dollar income called Global High Wealth Industry unit.
Its fair to say that many people agree with the perception that the little guy is more likely to be audited by the IRS.
I agree with the article where it points out that many people would agree that the rich can pay to avoid paying taxes.
The article also talks about the IRS is looking for additional streams of revenue.
While the rich often have bigger deductions than the average Joe.
Their pay out for disallowed deductions can come with a hefty fee.
This is one avenue the IRS is using to boost its revenue.
Now the rich have an advantage here because they can afford to hire someone to represent them and drag out a aduit for several years.
However no matter your income you need to keep your receipts from your write offs.
Now that tax season is over the audits will pick up.
Are you going to be targeted by the IRS???
