Depending on the size of your family you would need a small fortune to buy everyone a gift.

The family gift exchange can be economical for everyone.  No matter your financial situation you can make gift giving fun and not a financial burden.

I know a few families that do this and it works great.  Everyone gets some thing.  No one is left out.  There is the mystery of who has your name.  Makes it fun.

Put every one's name in a hat on Thanksgiving. 

They set a dollar amount for the gifts.  Say $25-50.  Be creative.

Don't tell any one whose name you got.

Some members will put out more effort than others.  Be thankful regardless.

No matter how large or small your family is you can do this.

It's not to late to still do this. 

Taking in to account that everyone in your family may not be financially sound.  Taking away the pressure to impress or financially stress out a family member is a priceless gift. 

Not everyone will tell their family members that they are experiencing financial problems.   

Some family members will complain about the gift they received expecting more from someone than they have.

So make Christmas much more enjoyable for all by having a gift exchange.
