Lifestyle, News, Renee Says

What happened to having character???

I'm not a person who likes to watch the evening news.  The news rarely reports good things happening in our world. So I look at the news online.

I have noticed that there are a lot of public figures in the news for crimes and sex scandals.   They are only in the news for a few days unless it's election time.

It got me to thinking about what happened to our leaders having character???  Why don't we hold them accountable???

I looked up the word character in the dictionary.  Webster defines a person with character as trust worthy and  honorable.  The complex of mental and ethical traits marking honesty, integrity, humility, ethical, and moral conduct.

Our leaders are people we are supposed to look to for direction, encouragement, ethics, moral fiber and hope.

Granted we are all human. We all have our short comings.

However, leaders let us down with flaws in their character.

There was a recent article in the news about a SCLC leader who was indicted on 51 counts.  http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/crime/former-sclc-leader-rev-raleigh-trammell-indicted-1052520.html

Whether you want to be a role model to people or not as a leader or person in leadership position you are.

When leaders are using their position of power and influence as away to run women, have affairs, go on the down low,  prey on child, or have children outside of their marriages, steal, and commit fraud for pleasure and personal gain.  There is a real problem.

Yet they don't realize that they wound the heart of those that follow them.  Causing the masses to lose hope who are already in a hopeless situation.

When do we decide to stand up and hold our leaders accountable for their actions.  This holds true to our political leaders, religious, the business community or any other place that has leadership in our communities.  No matter who they are or what they have accomplished they need to be held accountable.

When leaders are married and run woman: they have a character flaw and should be taken out of leadership position until they can handle themselves.

If wild sexual episodes are your thing keep that at home with the wife of your youth.  Instead of finding a prostitute who will sale your story to the tabloid's.

When you enjoy drinking do that at your own home.  You can have someone purchase the alcohol for you.  But sitting in a bar getting hammered is not a good look.

Whatever your vice is do it in your own home.  Keep other people out of your mess.

You don't have to put your bad habits on display for the world.

Stealing from an organization, defrauding the government or social programs to benefit you and not the public you are supposed to be helping is a crime.  You should have to face the consequences of those crimes.

Money and power should not excuse you for your lack of character.  When you do the crime you should do the time.  Money should not buy your way out of the justice system.

Telling on other people or have someone else be your fall guy should not be your way of sweeping it under the rug.

During the next election think beyond the political party.  Consider if the persons who are in the election actually have character.

Before following a religious leader for guidance consider if they have character.

Character is something we all need to have in our lives.  The world would be a much better place if we all strove to have character.

Do the leaders you look to for hope have character????
