I was having a conversation with a friend.

She was saying she needed to get a budget.

My suggestion was for her to first look at all her bills.

When it comes to utilities (gas/electric) they can range in very different amounts depending on the time of year.

To get a hold of your utilities contact your provider and ask about the budget billing program.

You must be at a zero balance to apply.

The program will give you the amount you need to pay each month.

You are allowed to pay more than the amount due.

You are not in a contract to stay with the program.

This is a great way to start setting up your budget and get your finances in order.

Or you can simply pay extra each month and give yourself a cushion in case you don't have the funds to pay one month.

Remember to ask questions when calling your provider.
