Black Friday Workers
Christmas shopping season is now upon us.
With the comes the start of holiday shopping with Black Friday.
I recently came across this article talking about those who have to work on Black Friday.
Source Yahoo Finance – Why it Sucks to Work Black Friday
Like many I never really thought about those who are really affected the most by this
day the Black Friday Workers.
There were a couple of things that struck me in the article.
The first was that many stores are now opening on Thanksgiving day.
This means that many of the Black Friday Workers won't get to spend very much
time with their families during the holiday.
"Store employees have to show up even earlier to prepare for the retail rush. Others
have to lose sleep as they work long, hectic overnight shifts at stores that remain
open all hours of the night."
Secondly many of the Black Friday Workers will have to work really long shifts in
order to meet this demand.
"Doorbusters" make things more hectic. Customers get frustrated after waiting hours
for deals that sell out even before they get in the store. And workers usually bear the
brunt of customers' anger."
Also many people do not realize that the store only has a limited amount of the sales items.
Taking out your frustrations on the Black Friday Workers only intensifies the situation.
These Black Friday Workers don't order the inventory and have no control over whether or not there is enough to go around.
Companies are driven by the dollar.
They try to compete with each others sales.
When people stop running to these sales on Thanksgiving Day many of the Black
Friday Workers would be able to spend the entire holiday with their families.
In my own experience the sales are the same the very next day.
Some of the sales are even better after Black Friday has come and gone.
As a society we need to get our priorities in order.
We need to consider the Black Friday Workers who make the sacrifice to be away
from their families so that we can go crazy during the start of the Christmas
shopping season.
As you go shopping on Thanksgiving day please be considerate of the Black Friday
Workers.
How are you going to treat Black Friday Workers this Thanksgiving???
